Prof Rakhit is a senior consultant cardiologist at the Royal Free Hospital London and Professor of cardiology at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science, University College London. He is currently Divisional Director of the CardioVascular Division (cardiology & vascular surgery) at the Royal Free providing strategic leadership to the Trust whilst also leading an active clinical research and teaching programme.
He is an expert in interventional cardiology including coronary angiography, complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI, coronary angioplasty and stenting).
He has a broad based training in all aspects of general cardiology with particular expertise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of coronary heart disease. He regularly consults patients presenting with symptoms of chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, heart murmurs, dizzy spells and blackouts. He is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidaemia (raised cholesterol), arrhythmias (disturbances of heart rhythm), heart failure (heart muscle disease) together with heart valve problems. He is interested in cardiovascular disease prevention and the assessment of patients at risk of developing heart attack and stroke utilising the latest diagnostic technology.
He is very patient focused and strongly believes in providing a high quality, evidence-based and individualised approach to patient care.
